DETERMINING ASSESSMENTS
Goals #1
Given resource materials about 19th and 20th century American painters, volunteers will describe the paintings when leading a museum tour.

Objectives
Given handout sheets and slide on 19th and 20th century American painters, volunteers can identify, recall, and match the paintings to the correct artists and identify the medium.

Given the map of the museum, volunteers can strategically plan 2 hours tour exhibits.

Assessment
A training checklist instrument can assess the evaluation of completeness and consistency of learning. The experienced volunteer designated to oversee the training of the new volunteer will complete the training checklist. The trainer will evaluate whether the trainee is able to match artist with paintings and whether tours are started on time and end on time.

Rationale
The on-the-job performance assessment provides validity and reliability to the skills and knowledge congruent to the learning objectives. Each volunteer can demonstrate the role and responsibilities acquired from the learning goals and objective. The training checklist can be applied for future volunteers.

Goal #3
When given access to the Excel database, volunteers will able to locate, edit, copy, and add new patron’s information into the database.

Objective:
Given prerequisite training in Microsoft Excel, to measure the volunteers’ ability to accurately input the patron’s information using an Excel spread sheet, which will be congruent to the learning objective. The volunteer will add patron’s application form, organizing the database, and retrieving patron’s information in within 5 minutes.

Assessment
This on the job performance assessment will require the assistance of a more experienced volunteer. Each new volunteer would demonstrate to their trainer the knowledge gained through the training process identifying whether they know where to accurately place information in the Excel spreadsheet and the amount of time it takes to add the information. A training checklist can be used to gain an assessment of their knowledge through training.

Rationale
Newly hired staff members are often teamed with more experienced team members to train and identify knowledge gained through training. The more experienced volunteers can observe the consistency, and confidence of the volunteer. This is an ideal format because the volunteers will be required to know a considerable amount of factual information. They are observed and measured on whether they are competent or not in using Excel program to add, edit, and search patron’s information.
